Fast Shutter Speed (10th Photograph): In this photograph, my approximate shutter speed was 1/1400th of a second to freeze action. This was on my point and shoot camera on the sports mode with white balance set to shade and ISO 200. The action I froze in this shot was a friend of mine jumping into the air while throwing up a pile of leaves. My distance in the shot was about 4 feet back, while lying on the ground angling the camera up towards her. Other compositional elements that are present in the photo are the rule of thirds with the ground, building and sky, positive and negative space between her limbs, line and shape from the building and strong colors.
Slow Shutter Speed (9th Photograph): In the photograph, my approximate shutter speed was 1/30th of a second to purposely blur action. This was also on my point and shoot camera on the nightscape mode. The white balance was set to shade and the ISO was at 400 in attempt to blur the action. The action I froze was a friend doing a few dance steps through the school courtyard. My distance in the shot was about 8 feet back, while standing a little to the right and straight forward. Other compositional elements that are present in the photograph are positive and negative space between her limbs again and line and shape from the building behind, more specifically the windows.
